UG Pharmacy Alumni give back to Alma mater

In a very colourful ceremony on Wednesday the 14th of November 2018, the Alumni body of the University of Ghana School of Pharmacy (UGSOP) visited their alma mater to give back and show their appreciation to faculty members for the quality formal and informal training they received from the prestigious school.

The momentous homecoming which was launched on the school premises was attended by various alumni groups spanning from the pioneer year groups of 2012 through to the most recent graduates of 2018. Also in attendance were the Dean, senior and junior members of the faculty.

The alumni body presented various items valued at GH₵30,000.00 to the school. These included analytical balances, refrigerators, reference books and other laboratory items.

In her opening speech, the leader of the Alumni Association, Pharm Esther Obiri-Yeboah expressed the unanimous feeling of nostalgia that overwhelmed every alumnus and declared that the alumni is going to be involved more in the affairs of the school. Pharm Kwabena Bempong Aboagye-Agyemang of the pioneer group also emphasised the group’s desire to establish a working network with the school and support the next generation of students and alumni.

The Dean of the school, Dr Asiedu-Gyekye expressed gratitude to the alumni for their thoughtfulness and continuous support and promised that the items will be put to good use and properly maintained.

On the same day, the Pharmacy Students Association seized the moment to launch their new cloth, which is on sale to all students and alumni of the school.

The University of Ghana School of Pharmacy was established in 2007 as a constituent of the College of Health Sciences. It was located on the Korle-Bu Campus of the College of Health Sciences. However, in 2011, it was relocated to the Legon Campus where it has been since.

It should be recalled that the school celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, which was climaxed with a colourful ceremony with the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the special guest of honour at Movenpick Ambassador Hotel.

It was during these celebrations that the Alumni body pledged to support the school.
